technical Description and performance

The lung can create a maximal depression of 50mbar. Hence we tested the LimiX™ valve up to 100mbar. To demonstrate the functionality of the valve, the flow versus the pressure is shown in Figure 1. During the measurement, the flow rose constantly from 0 to 330cm³/s. The limitation valve (blue curve) had been compared with a small orifice (red curve). The resulting curves are reproducible and show constant flow rate for the LimiX™ valve at any inspiratory pressure (Q = 150cm³/s).

Flow-Pressure Characteristics of LimiX compared to a conventional flow restriction (red): Best flow restriction at low inspiration flow rates.

Activaero can manufacture LimiX™ valves for a variety of different flow rates.

Conclusion

The advantage of the LimiX™ valve is that it can be adapted to almost any commercially available aerosol device. LimiX™ is easy to use and cost-effective. It can improve both conventional and more recently developed inhalation systems.

The benefits of LimiX™ are that it has efficient deposition and a reduced variability in the deposition of the inhaled therapeutic.
