Smart Card Technology
The AKITA˛® can be individually adjusted for each patient on the basis of an initial lung function test. The optimum breathing pattern (number of breaths, flow rate and volume) is programmed onto a smart card. This card is similar to a phone card and is inserted into the AKITA device before the first inhalation.
The Smart Card records and carries the individual breathing pattern of the patient as well as the compliance protocol which can be retrieved from the card by the clinician using proprietary compliance manager software (see below).
In this way, the inhalation treatment can be specifically tailored to each patient and for the dosing parameters of each drug and treatment regimen. This ensures an optimum treatment for every patient and every drug.
